Why be self-conscious of unwanted hair? Achieve long-term, stable reduction of hair after a series of laser hair removal treatments.
You may already have tried countless hair removal treatments such as creams and depilatories, waxing, sugaring, and even electrolysis. Laser hair removal offers a safe alternative that will leave your skin smoothed and soft to the touch.
How does it work?
Light-based hair removal is also called photo epilation. Photo-epilation can be achieved with lasers or IPL. When the light is applied to the surface of the skin, it seeks out a target. In this case, melanin of the hair is the target. The light travels until it strikes the hair bulb (root) where the highest concentration of melanin is found. As the light is absorbed, your body turns the light into heat, which results in damaging or destroying the hair-producing papilla. The heat conversion can also target the darker capillaries that bring blood to feed the follicle. The best candidates for laser hair removal are people with light skin and dark hair.
Why are multiple treatments needed?
We have three stages of hair growth. Growth stage, transition stage, and resting stage. Only active hair follicles in the “growth” stage are vulnerable to the treatment. The follicles not in the growth stage will become active over time. This is the reason for spacing your treatments at various intervals.
How many treatments are needed?
Your skin tone, hair color, texture, the area being treated are all determining factors for how many treatments you may need. Hair growth is influenced by many controlling components. Age, ethnicity, hormones, medication, metabolism, weight gain and genetics all play a part in hair location, thickness, and resilience. In areas where hair growth is hormonally induced (i.e. a woman’s face) clients could require more treatments. In these situations, treatments may be required on an ongoing basis as hair growth continues to be influenced by hormones.
What can you expect?
Mild sunburn like sensation is expected. This usually lasts 2-24 hours but can persist up to 72 hours. You may notice stubble or growth in the days or weeks after the procedure. This is simply the treated hairs shedding from the follicle and will fall away from the skin with gentle rubbing.
The area to be treated should be clean shaven 12 to 24 hours prior to appointment and be free of suntans or sunburns. Treatments intervals are between 4 and 8 weeks depending on body part. Certain skin conditions, health conditions, and medications can impact whether photo epilation is safe. Photosensitizing medications, damage to skin, fungal, viral bacterial infections are contraindications to treatment.
Who is an ideal candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
The best candidates are people with light skin and dark hair. The hair must be darker than your skin. No laser is very effective on blonde, gray/white or red hair. We offer free consultations to determine if you are a good candidate. Our laser can only treat Fitzpatrick skin types 1-4 at this time.
At this time the clinic is unable to accommodate male brazilians. As we grow we will happily add this service. So stay tuned.
